Many stores may be considering offering benefits based on rank but are unsure how to implement a ranking system effectively.
This time, we will introduce how to distribute rank-up coupons via email using tools like "Ranky" and "Shopify Flow. Boost the potential for creating the next purchase opportunity by sending a notification of rank-up at the same time!
4 Steps to Distribute Rank-Up Coupons via Email
STEP①: Create Customer Segments
From the Rank List page in Ranky, navigate to the "Customers" section in the Shopify admin panel using the Gold rank customer list as the target group, and create a customer segment.
STEP②：Create a Discount Code
In the Discounts section of the Shopify admin panel, create a coupon specifically for customers who have achieved Gold rank.
STEP③：Create an Email Template
Using Shopify Email, create the content for an email to send to customers who have achieved Gold rank. Include the discount code created in STEP② within the email content.
STEP④：Create a Shopify Flow
Using Shopify Flow, automate the process to distribute the rank-up coupon via email to customers who have achieved Gold rank, using the elements created in the previous steps.
Prerequisite: About Ranks
This time, we’ll use a store with Gold, Silver, and Bronze membership ranks as an example to introduce how to send a one-time coupon to customers who have upgraded from Bronze or Silver rank to Gold rank.
Now, let’s go through the steps starting from STEP①.
STEP①: Create Customer Segments
From the Rank List in Ranky, click the Customer List button to open the customer list.
Navigate to the "Customers" section in the Shopify admin panel, where you will see the customers and the customer count for the selected rank. Click "Save Segment", enter a segment name, and save it.
Reference: How to view a list of customers with each rank assigned. Save it as a segment.
STEP②：Create a Discount Code
In the Shopify admin panel, go to "Discounts" and configure the discount details. For this example, select "Discount type: Amount off order".
In the "Customer eligibility" section, select "Specific customer segments." Click "Browse" to display the segment names you created.
STEP③：Create an Email Template
In the Shopify Email app, create an email template for sending coupons to customers who have upgraded from Bronze or Silver rank to Gold rank.
In the Shopify Email sections, select "Discounts" to link the coupon created in "STEP②：Create a Discount Code".
After creating the email content, click "Done" to save the email.
This is a sample of the email content.
STEP④：Create a Shopify Flow
i. Trigger Settings
Go to "Create Workflow" > "Select a rigger" > "Ranky". Set the trigger to "Rank updated" for when a rank change occurs.
ii. Set Conditions
Set the rank prior to the rank-up.
Condition: Click "Add a variable," select "Old rank title", set it to "Equal to" from the dropdown, and then enter "Bronze" or "Silver”.
iii. Set Conditions
Set the rank after the rank-up.
Condition：Click "Add a variable," select "New rank title", set it to "Equal to" from the dropdown, and then enter "Gold”.
iv. Set Conditions
Condition：To ensure the coupon is sent only to customers achieving Gold rank for the first time, we will set up a condition to exclude customers with the tag "rankup_coupon_Gold." You can customize the tag name as needed.
Add a variable > Customer > tags
ⅴ.Set Conditions
Condition：To send the email, set the condition to match Add a variable > Customer > emailMarketingConsent > marketingState > SUBSCRIBED. 
vi. Set Actions
Send Marketing Email：Select the template created in "STEP③：Create an Email Template".
Add customer tags：For customers achieving Gold rank for the first time, add the customer tag "rankup_coupon_Gold".
You can customize the tag name as needed.
Once the setup is complete, click "Turn on workflow" in the top-right corner of the screen.
If coupons are to be sent when customers achieve Silver or Bronze rank, set the conditions for each rank starting from "ii. Set Conditions”.
The setup is now complete.

Upload the file from the "Import" option on the Shopify Flow settings page.
